Tessellation…...

Wednesday, 09 July 08

Today, a new project are introduced to us- T3c: tessellation. Before this lesson, we did some preparing work. We pick one of the ontography drawing, zoom up a portion of the drawing and print it out.

Next, we need to get a piece of A4 or A3 paper and cut out a square box measuring 100mm x100mm in the middle of the paper.
Then we move the frame around our enlarged drawing and hunt for a good composition within the frame. After we are done, we need to tape down the frame to the paper and a piece of butter paper over the frame. We then trace out our drawing on the butter paper with the help of the grid lines. After all of us complete the previous step we were told to place a fresh piece of butter paper over the 1st piece of butter paper and decide which elements are above and which are below. Next we need to create a series of 4 patterns by tracing and rotating 90 degrees each time, a set of 4 patterns by mirroring the 1st 4 patterns along a horizontal axis, reverse the order of elements – what’s on top is now below and follow by the mirroring again.

After all this, we should have 16 patterns and we need to paste them on the A1 paper. We need to complete 3 tessellations of 400mm X 400mm each on the A1 paper with different theme (colours, tones, patterns).
