Friday...

Friday, 27 June 08

Today, we started off with a lecture on artists. We learnt about the works done by Jackson Pollock and the influences on him- Pablo Picasso on Cubism, Joan Miro on Surrealism David Alfaro Siqueiros, Muralist “The painting was no longer an object in the viewer's environment: it had become an environment in itself.” this was taken from the slide which I think we should remember.

After the lecture, we move on to pin up our ontography drawings and waited for our director to arrive. Today, he gave a lecture on philosophies. I found it difficult to absorb and worry that I will be called to answer his questions.

TERM 2

Monday, 23 June 08

A new term starts… today… before we start the lesson, we looked at how the overall results did for the T2 project last term. Next, we had our drawing lesson, T1- DRAW THE LINE: What is that? We have two exercises. The first exercise we need to divide the landscape format drawing block into halves equally and draw the outlines of the painting projected on the screen. The photographs are up side down and we need to image the other half and draw it out. The next exercise is to divide portrait format drawing block into quarters equally then draw and shade the photograph shown on the screen. Same thing, the photographs are up side down again and we need to draw another half using imagination. As for our home activity, we need to draw 2 human silhouettes, 1 with chair and table and the other silhouette with door, floor line and ceiling line.

After lunch, we have lesson taught by the master shifu- director of school of design. He told us to place our faces as close as possible to the paper and draw slowly and follow our pen/pencil on where they want to go. This is known as onthography. I was wondering how to "don't think, just draw." I need to redraw as my drawing is not what he wants. So I take another paper to redraw it again. We have a pin up session. After listening to the comments by the direction, we move back to our place to draw again.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL

Friday, 30 may 08

Today we visited the National museum and Singapore Art museum. I am very excited as this was the first time I visited these two museums.
We have an assignment to do- DRAW THE LINE- something’s old, something’ new.
The objective is to observe, appreciate and draw the old and modern architecture in detail. We have a walk around the National Museum (both wings). Draw new wing of National Museum interior with old details or vice versa to develop something new of our own.
The next Objective is to understand the basic scale and proportion in architecture.
Next we need to draw the façade of Singapore Art Museum.
We went round taking photos before we did the assignment. Here are some of the photos I took.

DID FESTIVAL

Thursday, 29 May 08

Second day of DID festival…Today, we visit the year two and three’s studio. Their models are wonderful. I am very impressed by their work .We went around take photographs of the models. After lunch, we meet the graduates. They told us more about DID and given us some advice. They said that the most important things is to plan our time well in order to complete our projects in time and also backup our work as the computer/laptop may break down any time.
